Some Businesses You can Start with a Shoestring Budget

More and more people are choosing to take control of their own destiny and their financial future and starting their own business.  For some it is just a means of making a little extra cash while for others it is a way to escape the 9-5 grind working for someone else.  You may think that just because you don’t have a spare $100,000 sitting around in the bank that you can’t start your own business.  That simply isn’t true.  You can start a business with little or no cash.  You need some skills, a serious work ethic but here are some businesses you can start with a shoestring budget.

Cleaning Services

There are lots of people who would rather spend the afternoon getting a root canal rather than clean their own homes, others just don’t have the time.  In both cases they would happily pay a reasonable sum to have someone else do it for them.  This is a great way to make money on your own terms, you can work part time, and in most cases set your own hours. You can use the equipment and cleaning supplies that you probably already have in your own home.  If you are willing to work nights and weekends there are plenty of offices that need cleaning too, however you may have to invest in some special equipment for that.

Event Planning

Birthdays, Bar Mitzvahs, family reunions or a baby shower, all of it means a ton of running around for the person trying to host the party.  Most get bogged down in the details and would rather have a pro take on the job for them. This is where you get to step in and take over the planning and execution.  You can easily market your event planning business through a website until you build up a client base.

Tutoring

Are you good at English, science or math?  If you have been playing a musical instrument for years and would like to teach others, then offering lessons might be your thing.  If you have patience and like working with children you may enjoy great success as a tutor.  They will help keep your student’s attention. Look for parents and teachers and let them know that you are offering extra help in your chosen subject and it won’t take long for your phone to ring.

Freelance Work

If you have specialized training or a special skill then consider working as a freelancer.  If you can do accounting, build websites, graphic design or create computer applications then your skill are in high demand.  There are plenty of freelance websites such as Upwork or Freelancer where you can register and create a profile.  You can bid on jobs and once you have some work under your belt, you will have people coming to you.

Don’t be afraid to take the leap and start creating your future.  Being an entrepreneur is one of the most rewarding things you will ever do.
